This was my entry for the cake contest

Anthoney is on Day 6 and had 2 rubber snakes in his tube. I am doubling up on his so he can share with Cameron.
Malaina is on Day 4 and had a Tiger Beat Magazine in her tube.

They are both ready for school this just adds a bit more excitement leading up to the day.Savvy Saving Mommahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12195145477386305652noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5792878226204847764.post-1046926477423684522010-08-18T15:12:00.000-04:002010-08-18T15:12:10.159-04:00Ice Cream Cone Cake Pops!!

These are so stinkin cute!! I used chocolate cake scraps from leveling the cake I am making and added a little bit of marshmallow fluff, mixed it together and forms small balls for the "ice cream". I also used candy melts and peanut M&M's to finish them off. They are so yummy!

Now they are sealed up in an airtight container in the fridge awaiting all the kids to eat Saturday.Savvy Saving Mommahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12195145477386305652noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5792878226204847764.post-10334761420812876362010-08-17T14:46:00.000-04:002010-08-17T14:46:24.080-04:00Sweets!Last night I worked on some sweets for the dessert table for the party.
Sorry for the bad pictures, I'm trying to get a bunch of things accomplished during nap time.

Oreo's covered in fudge, the one with the butterfly is mint, yum!

I still have so much to do...Savvy Saving Mommahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12195145477386305652noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5792878226204847764.post-84632947921510103912010-08-11T14:34:00.000-04:002010-08-11T14:34:05.941-04:00More party prep!

Party Hats! Boy were these time consuming, especially Abby. I used my Cricut and the Sesame Street Friends Cartridge to make these and I just messed around with the paper to make the hats.
My husband made the purple stand for me, I am going to put cupcakes on it.

Cute hat my mom made, mainly for picture purposes.

Banner, again I used my Cricut to cut everything, then glued it all together and used tulle to attach each circle.

Today the kids and I taste tested 2 recipes for Cookies n Cream filling, I am partial to the one on the left and the kids can't decide which is better. I always make extra cakes and freeze them just for occasions such as this, lol!Savvy Saving Mommahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12195145477386305652noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5792878226204847764.post-85322642831056693752010-08-05T19:33:00.000-04:002010-08-05T19:33:51.424-04:00First Birthday Party PrepI absolutely love little details when party planning! Right now I am trying to come up with just the right party favor for my baby girls first birthday. Searching all the party sites and blogs it seems as the themed parties are not the cool thing to do but how can you resist the cutest little girl on Sesame Street? That's right we are having an Abby Cadabby first birthday!

So far this is what I have made:
The Birthday Girls Party Outfit and shoes

I have also practiced making the cake topper out of gumpaste and fondant

I've also started on the birthday banner and elmo cupcake toppers. So much to do and so little time!Savvy Saving Mommahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12195145477386305652noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5792878226204847764.post-48995642656223415212010-08-04T21:00:00.000-04:002010-08-04T21:00:59.710-04:00Back to School ShoppingWhy is this such a daunting task? I am ready to have my oldest 2 back in school but I just can't bring myself to get them prepared. I carry around the school supply lists in my purse yet I find myself walking right by the school supplies. What is wrong with me? Am I the only one that feels this way? In the end I know I am not going to send them without the proper supplies, new clothes and shoes so I am not too worried yet. I have a bit of time to shake this feeling. I just hope it moves on soon.Savvy Saving Mommahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12195145477386305652noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5792878226204847764.post-63392452881226716292010-08-03T19:03:00.000-04:002010-08-03T19:03:42.965-04:00CAKES!!!!Here are a few cakes I have made recently.
The cala lillies are edible! I was able to use my Cricut Cake for the first time adding detail to this wedding cake.

I absolutely love how this turned out! It is 100% edible! The Minnie is made from Rice Krispy Treats, modeling chocolate and fondant.

I hope you enjoy looking at them as much as I enjoyed making them!Savvy Saving Mommahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12195145477386305652noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5792878226204847764.post-87417036610912753752010-08-03T09:17:00.000-04:002010-08-03T09:17:43.876-04:00Wow, It's been awhile!I really do enjoy blogging when I get the chance, but WOW it's been 2 months since my last post, eek!

What have I been up to? Well me kids have been keeping me busy and I have been struggling trying to keep them busy.

I have made lots of cakes since June, I'll share some pictures later.

I am currently planning my daughter's first birthday. I can't believe a year has come and gone! I am also in the early stages of planning my son's 3rd and 5th birthday's. This time of year gets my head spinning, but I LOVE party planning!Savvy Saving Mommahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12195145477386305652noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5792878226204847764.post-56067860241749926482010-06-01T09:56:00.000-04:002010-06-01T09:56:52.440-04:00How do I keep it together?

Some days feel like a whirlwind and I can't tell if we are coming or going. I needed to get it together. I came across Organized home and their wonderful Household Notebook. You can print of several templates from Organizedhome.com to get you started.

In this notebook I have everything we need from our daily schedule to what size shoes my kids wear.

Our notebook has 10 dividers:
1. Address and Phone numbers
2. Daily and Weekly to do schedules
3. Weekly and Monthly meals planned
4. Food Inventory, Pantry and Freezer
5. Shopping lists
6. Important Dates
7. Kid Sizes
8. Important Papers
9. Bills Due
10.Upcoming cakes and Ideas

The very first page of the notebook is an Emergency phone number list, it also has our emergency plan. My pages are protected by page protectors so I use a wet erase marker to change things as needed.

I have had this notebook for a month now and my life has run so much smoother. My favorite section is the Food Inventory. I know everything we have so it makes meal planning easy. It took a bit getting this all together but so worth it in the end.Savvy Saving Mommahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12195145477386305652noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5792878226204847764.post-83879401552577381532010-05-26T17:50:00.000-04:002010-05-26T17:50:45.826-04:00What do I do when I get bored?Practice new cake decorating skills!

Had one sick kid and one really tired one so they slept pretty much all morning. The computer was boring so was the tv and I didn't feel like talking.

Several days ago I watched a tutorial on making fondant roses and how to make the cake look like a basket.

This was my first attempt at both
At first I didn't think I was prepared to make a cake but I dug deep in the pantry and found a Spice cake mix and cream cheese frosting. I baked the smallest round cake I had, filled the layers with cream cheese frosting and then I whipped up a small bowl of buttercream frosting.

YUMMY! I can't wait for dessert!Savvy Saving Mommahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12195145477386305652noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5792878226204847764.post-91780409915482153372010-05-25T20:13:00.000-04:002010-05-25T20:13:01.671-04:00One car family once againThis is like deja vu, a couple of years ago we had one car for almost 3 months. A the time, Cameron was a newborn and I had just found out I was pregnant with #4. It was a kick me while I'm down type of a moment and I am feeling that way again.

Friday I got all the kids in the van to pick up my oldest from school and when I turned the key it sounded like the engine was about to fall out so I didn't attempt to start it more than once. I called dh and explained to him what was going on and he had to drive all the way home from work just to go to the school which is a minute from our house. There was just no way I could take 2 9 month olds, a 2 yr old and a 4 yr old up the street.

Fast forward to day 4 of being stuck in and around the house and I already feel like I need to be committed! Our neighbor decided to not let her little girl play with my boys because they were fighting yesterday. The funny thing is she and I were both in the house and really didn't know who did what and with 4 yr olds they tend to lie about who done it stuff, lol!

When my boys were told she couldn't play with them today it was like pulling teeth to keep them out of her yard so I decided to just make them stay inside. I tried my hardest to keep them occupied but the second I didn't they were into everything and fighting. I think they are having no means of transportation withdraw too!

Hopefully my husband can get the van fixed and we will be on the road again soon but until then I just don't know how I will survive.Savvy Saving Mommahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12195145477386305652noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5792878226204847764.post-91015079695174186862010-05-22T13:02:00.001-04:002010-05-22T13:02:54.513-04:00I'm making a wedding cake Delivery Day!I woke up this morning feeling confident, so I decided to put the cake completely together. My original plan was to take everything and stack the cake at the venue, but I didn't want to feel the pressure of having to hurry and get it done.

So here is the finished cake at home

at the venue
W<strike><strike><strike><strike></strike></strike></strike></strike><strike></strike>hat a day! I am DONE! Now I am a big ball of nerves. I have to deliver the cake tomorrow and then stack it. I am confident the cake is well supported and I limited the decor I put on before hand. Should go well but STILL this is an important piece of the wedding!

I started out the day by making what felt like a million fondant balls

More daisies

Got all the daisies out and melted white chocolate

Used the white chocloate to adhere white wire to the back of some of the smaller daisies

I didn't want to waste the leftover white choclate so I dipped some strawberries in it for an afternoon snack.

I put some daisies and fondant balls on the cakes. Also made them shiny!

Late today I worked on the extra cake. What I made should feed a good amount of people but you never know how big they may cut the pieces.
Made buttercream

Crumb coated

Frosted and added a couple of daisies (this is why I wanted to learn to do fondant, I am not too great at frosting

Now I am thinking of messing around with my lustre dust and Vodka!Savvy Saving Mommahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12195145477386305652noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5792878226204847764.post-53928494623652421872010-05-21T07:46:00.000-04:002010-05-21T07:46:32.380-04:00Day 4 I'm making a wedding cake!Yesterday my goal was to cover the cakes with fondant in the morning and then start decorating them towards the evening.

Here they are covered in fondant. I found it easier to cut strips for the larger tier and lay them on rather than roll the fondant over it.

pans on top to make sure the strip ends aren't going to show once tier 2 goes on.

I didn't get much done last night

Today I plan on adding orange circles to the top tier and making LOTS of fondant balls to go around each tier. I also have to finish the daisies and attach them to wire. So much to do and it's going to be a gorgeous day outside. I am hoping to get this done early.Savvy Saving Mommahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12195145477386305652noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5792878226204847764.post-68890658176642061752010-05-19T13:54:00.000-04:002010-05-19T13:54:26.779-04:00Day 2 & 3 I'm making a wedding cake!

Yesterday I had to make 1 more layer of each tier, the cakes didn't look tall enough. I also started on making the daisies and the flip flops. This evening I will finish up the daisies and the flip flops.

This morning I made buttercream frosting. Yum! This stuff is delicious!

I took the cakes out of the freezer and immediately filled them with buttercream and crumb coated them. After a couple of hours I added more buttercream. The cakes will sit out over night and then get a layer of simple syrup brushed on before the fondant gets layed across each tier.

This is where it gets tricky...I have to keep a 4 year old and a 2 year old away from the dining table until the cakes are delivered. Should be fun times!Savvy Saving Mommahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12195145477386305652noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5792878226204847764.post-58850832233193771092010-05-18T07:25:00.000-04:002010-05-18T07:25:56.792-04:00Day 1 I'm making a wedding cake!It typically takes me about 4 days to make a cake. I could probably make one in 2 days if I was kid free, HA that ain't happening! I took a peak at my Household Notebook where I jotted down my plan of action. I gave myself 2 days to make the cakes just incase I don't like the way they stack the following day, I have enough time to make an additional layer or two.
If you look closely you can see the cake I am replicating in the upper left corner.

I started out by making
-2 12 inch round cakes
-2 8 inch round cakes(I don't like the way the 10 inch looks on top of the 12)
-2 6 inch round cakes

Once cooled and leveled out I layed freezer paper on the bottom and top of each layer and placed them in the freezer.
Later this evening I will wrap them completely in freezer paper, they are easier to handle with a chill on them. I surely wouldn't want one to crack in half on me, eeekk!

I have decided to start making cakes for profit. I enjoy drawing out what I want the cake to look like and making it become real. I don't plan on doing more than 3 cakes a month as I have 4 kids that need my attention and it takes about 4 days to make a masterpiece. I was shocked when I announced to several people that I wanted to start making money off of my cakes and I immediately started getting orders.

I have a wedding cake coming up for the 22nd and I would love to share the cake making process with all of you.

The bride and groom are both on their second time around and are very relaxed. They chose a bright, colorful, daisy and flip flop cake. In this case the bride found a cake she liked online and sent it to me so I will pretty much be going off of the picture. I can't wait to get started.
<strike></strike>In the meantime here are a few cakes I have done recently.

I have been busy planning for my daughter's 8th Birthday Party and preparing for several upcoming cakes for friends.

I had no clue as kids got older they were going to be so picky with party themes and activities. My daughter seems to think we have a money tree growing out back. I don't recall being so indecisive when I was her age, maybe I should ask my parents about this.

First we had to decide on a theme. Originally she was head over heals in love with this diva theme and this glitzy girl theme. She had a similar Rock Girl Diva theme for her 6th birthday and I was really trying to sway her away from it. She ended up agreeing with me but only if we could mesh the two themes some how. I really think all she wants to do is dance and sing to Justin Beiber songs, lol.

Last week online I found a $10 off a $30 purchase for Party City that expired Sunday. So we went to Party City and got all things Glitzy Girl. When we came home we sat down and wrote out her guest list. Girl was so picky with who she wanted to invite. She told me well I like this girl but the other girls don't and so on. It was a long process that did eventutally end with her taking 6 invites to school. I do limit the number of kids that attend an at home party because our house won't accomodate many. Although we have had success in outdoor parties the past few years.

I have gone back and forth with what activites we will have and I think we decided on making bead necklaces and decorating flip flops. Should be fun for the girls.

I mentioned above that I am making a couple of cakes. I have planned a Dora cake for this weekend, a Bulls head cake for next Thursday and Fish shaped cake lollipops for my husband aand brothers birthday. On top of that I am trying to draw up my plans for my daughter's cakes. She has asked for 3 tiers of which each tier represents what she likes. I am going to be pretty busy but will try to update you all on my progress and ofcourse pictures.Savvy Saving Mommahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12195145477386305652noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5792878226204847764.post-74808763089262726172010-04-06T09:19:00.000-04:002010-04-06T09:19:35.313-04:00Remembering Our Angel

I have been a bit depressed lately because I have been thinking of the baby we lost 2 years ago.

We found out we were pregnant right before Cameron turned 3 months in 2007. We had no clue how far along I was so we had several sonograms which showed a healthy baby due at the end of August 2008. I was in a funk when I first found out. I was scared of having babies so close together and sad for Cameron because instead of enjoying his first we would be cooing over the new baby.

Two weeks before my sonogram I had my 18 week check up and the baby's heart beat was strong 150's range. I was given the paper to make my sonogram appointment. I made it that day for the soonest possible date which took us into 20 weeks. I though this was perfect, we would surely know if we were having a boy or a girl. I was just starting to deal with everything and get excited. To this point we didn't buy one thing for the baby. I had a shopping trip planned for right after we found out the sex. I was really hoping for a girl because we just had a baby boy.

On 4/4/2008 we went to our sonogram appointment. Chris and I sat in the waiting room for about 15 minutes. While we were waiting we discussed names. He was sure we were having a boy. We had decided on the name Sean for a boy and were still undecided on a girls name. We got called back and the tech talked to us about our other kids and was very friendly. As I lay there with her scanning my stomach I could see the screen but it didn't look right. I knew something was wrong. The tech said she would be right back. As Chris and I sat and waited what felt like hours I told him something was wrong and he tried to assure me the baby was fine. I think I may even have mentioned I didn't think I saw a heartbeat.

The tech and a guy came back into the room and he scanned my stomach. He delivered to us the worst possible news. "Your baby boy does not have a heartbeat, it looks as though he passed on a week ago" They left us to ourselves for abit and then came back to let us know we needed to wait out in the waiting room while they made some calls to see what we needed to do.

We were told to go see our OB and they would speak to us about options. My head was spinning, I was in so much pain. Blaming myself because I wasn't happy about being pregnant so soon after we had a baby.

When we got to the OB I had no clue she was going to tell me I actually had to deliver the baby. I thought they could go in and take him, this is how naive I was to the wholw situation. I was too far along to have them do a D & C yet not far along enough to consider him a baby that deserved to be recognized with a death certificate. We could either go in that day or come back. We wanted to go home and wrap our heads around what just happened.

It was a rough couple of days, the delivery was like actual labor but without the great result of taking home a baby. I still had to go through contractions, water breaking and dilating to 10.

We were told what he would look like when he came out and I searched the internet for images to prepare myself. I was deadset on not holding him but in the end he was my baby. I knew I would regret not holding him so I did. They wrapped him in a nice white blanket and gave him to me. He was tiny at 3.1 ounces and 7 1/2 inches long.

We never got real answers as to what happened. It was just something that happened. We were told it was best that he passed on if he had a heart defect rather than him going through pain living on earth.
I love it so! Can you tell I am a fan of Bumgenius?

What's not pictured are 2 gdiaper covers, 6 gcloth and 11 BG FLIP inserts. We were using the gdiapers and gcloth today while I was washing the others.

I plan to add about 6 more diapers and then I should be set. I tried my first Happy Heiny today and I really like the fit on Macy so I would like a couple more of those, a few fuzzi bunz and I would love to try an Apple Cheeks.
