Happy New Year!

Photobucket

I will be ringing in the New Year with out Chris. We decided it was best for him to work tonight so we can buy the boys new beds this weekend and get some much needed organizational stuff. Not a big deal we were just sitting at home anyway. All the kids are in bed and I am about to follow.

My New Years Resolution is to get more organized and eventually get our grocery budget down to $150.00 a month.

In general I need to start looking at my lists and using my Calendar more. I rely on my memory most of the time and as most of you know the more kids you have the less you are able to remember.

Enjoy the evening! Happy 2009!

Month in Review

December wasn't too good of a month for us. We spent $356.87 and saved $296.98 on groceries (food only). We went over our $300.00 budget :(

Our grocery budget for January will be $250.00 for family of 5.

We are pretty well stocked with food, so I should just need to buy milk, bread and meat.

Wal Mart has alot of DVD's with $5 gift cards attached to them. They are $19.95, so you can price match with let say Best Buy to get the price down to $14.95. I got The Dark Knight because I had a $3 off coupon from Papa Johns from buying pizza a week ago. So I look at this like I got the movie for $6.95!
When price matching make sure you take the entire ad to the cashier!

Look what we made!

At the beginning of the week I decided that we were going to make some type of gingerbread structure this weekend. I was on a local moms forum and saw pictures of a great looking gingerbread train and thought it looked really neat and my kids would love it. So I did a search online and came across www.familyfun.com, you can go there and find all the information on making a gingerbread train. They give instruction to make the gingerbread dough, templates to print and cut out for the train and directions on how to make the "glue". I started on Thursday and mixed one batch of dough and refridgerated it overnight. Then yesterday I made another batch in the early afternoon and then refridgerated that one. While that one was refridgerating I cut out all the pieces and made what I could from the first batch of dough. Last night I finished baking all the pieces and sorted them out. They didn't come out great and mistakes were made which can be expected when you have kids lurking around trying to see what you are doing.
Photobucket
I used a cookies cutter for the circles!
This afternoon after running errands with the family we came back I mixed the "glue"
Photobucket
and put it in bags.
Photobucket
Since the boys were napping and Malaina was watching TV I put the train together, I didn't totally get to finish before Anthoney woke and wanted to help.
Photobucket
The kids had a blast decorating it and now my house smells so yummy!! Although this isn't edible because we used Royal Icing as the "glue".

I was shocked to see an email from Dorie at www.madludesigns.etsy.com! You can learn more about her and her giveaways on her blog www.madludesigns.blogspot.com. I won the giveaway from www.delectiblemommies.blogspot.com.
Dorie at Madlu Designs, designs cards for all occassions. With winning the giveaway I chose a Christmas/Holiday design and sent her pictures to place as she please on the card. She did a fabulous job and was done within 24 hours! I ordered my 4x6 cards through www.snapfish.com because I had 50 free prints to use up and I am working on another "family" photo project so this met my 50 free prints. I go them the day after I ordered them with regular shipping!! Very impressed! I addressed them and they are ready to go out in the mail today!

CVS Trip

My CVS switches over at 6pm on Saturday so I took a trip up there and did my transactions as planned http://savvysavingmomma.blogspot.com/2008/11/cvs-1123-1129-non-black-friday-deals.html. I spent $5.20 out of pocket and saved $55.11. The only ECB that printed was the Complete. Apparently they have a new way of actually printing ECB's when they don't print so I now have 4 $7 Right Guard, 1 $9 Maybelline and 1 $8.99 Complete. I kind of like how the Right Guard printed separately!
Can't wait until Thursday!! *I have read a few forums about the Thanksgiving sale starting tomorrow, the Manager at the store I frequent assured me it starts in Thursday! I surely hope so because I would hate to miss out on the deals.

Wall E and the Coke Deal at CVS

On Sunday I bought 6 12 packs of coke and my receipt said $19.98 applied towards the deal. I was confused the cashier insisted I was wrong but the ad clearly stated 3/$10 and $3.33 each, hmmm....anyway I went back and picked up a water for $1.

I went today and picked up the dvd and blade shaving cream(produces 1 ECB) paid $2.xx on gift card :)

You can find details on the error on the Coke Deal and Duracell Deal here http://www.thethriftymama.com/2008/11/regarding-cokewall-e-and-battery-deals.html

I now have $31.00 ECB for next week.

Score at Target!!

Thanks to the Glade deal I picked up this Thomas At Action Canyon for $11.xx! I bought 20 Glade Scented Candle Holders for $2.50 each and used 10 Buy One Get One Coupons and 10 $2.00 off one coupons, paid $5.xx out of pocket and got $25.00 back in gift cards. These were done in 5 different transactions.

I also used the $5.00 off coupon from the Target toy catalog!

Since I didn't need as nearly as many Glade's that I purchased I sold 12 for $1.00 each so in actually ended up getting this for FREE!!

Walgreens AGAIN!

Went back to Walgreens last night when Chris got home. I am in the baking mood and had $9 Register Rewards so I picked up the items to the left plus 2 pencils and an addition Carmex chapstick.

I got all this for $.53, I tried to only get one pencil but the register wouldn't take my $1.00 off 2 Libby's so she added the other and it took it off successfully. We didn't need the lotion but when you buy 2 you get $4 Register Rewards.

Bertolli Frozen oven bake meals for 2

I wasn't too hungry last night and the kids had already eaten before Chris got home so I popped this meal in the oven for him. It smelled great while it was cooking so when it was done I couldn't resist tasting it. It had a strong garlic taste but the chicken made up for that, I give this Bertolli Chicken Parm and Penne a thumbs up!!
You can find these meals at your local grocery store for about $6.00 and you can choose from Meat Lasagna Rustica, Stuffed Shells, Four Cheese Ravioli and Chicken Parm and Penne.
You can find a $2.00 off coupon here http://www.bertolli.us/oven-bake-meals.aspx .
